My Waitress Rants

Ok I get it the sign says OPEN until 2:45 but WHY come in at 2:43?  Yesterday was a slow day at work (middle of week) and no one was in past 2pm so we were doing our closing routine and we were almost done when this guy comes in at the very last minute...2 minutes before closing time.  Of course we can't turn him away but you should have seen every one's look...like WTF REALLY we were almost ready to leave.  We have been there since 7:30am on our feet so we were all ready to go home early.

When dude comes in he looks at his phone and says PHEW I HAVE 2 MINUTES TO SPARE.  He then shouts his order and walks to the farthest table in the cafe.  We bring him water and ask if he wants anything else and he says "I already told you my order".  I had to turn away before my look hurt him.  So now we are at a standstill for 20 minutes because we completed our closing work and only needed to do the balancing of the money- which we can't do until he pays. He ate and then sat there for another 15 minutes reading and we really can't say anything.  He left a $1 tip and not even a SORRY or a THANK YOU.

This is just a RANT on my behalf- did he do anything wrong NO but still wasn't cool in my book and a sorry would have been nice- just saying!  If I was that dude I would have not even tried to come to a cafe that was close to closing.  I would have said SORRY and THANK YOU for sure.  I would have left a bigger tip.  I sure wouldn't do that again.  The next time he comes in I might just mess up his order....just kiddeng I wouldn't do that on purpose!  I wrote this a while back on my other blog~ http://pinkmamasplace.blogspot.com/2012/01/waitress-rant-last-minute-customer.html

Sometimes we have some funny stuff happen in the cafe that just makes me wonder about people.  Last weekend we had this guy sit down and his back was pretty much towards the 80% of the cafe and guess what he had plumbers crack BIG TIME.  EWWWW I know but I couldn't bring myself to tell him to cover his ASS.  I could tell several customers were laughing and others were ready to gag so I went to the owners son and asked him to say something to the dude.  He said no problem and went over to let plumber crack man know about the show he was giving to the other customers and they guy told him "so what"...huh?  Really you don't care that you are offending people with your hairy butt?  The owners son of course didn't like his comment or attitude so asked him if he could place a coat on the chair and the guy said fine but within 10 minutes put the coat back on.  At this point I knew he was just doing it to get a reaction and wasn't respecting others.  I went and put my coat on his chair, smiled and walked away.  He was fine the rest of the time and then when he left he lit up a cigarette right outside the front door and irritated more customers.  I was in the WTF mode with him at this time and walked outside and asked him to walk down a ways so the smoke didn't come into the cafe.  He was irritated but at this point I was more concerned about the other customers and their experience at the cafe then his!

I try my hardest to be the best waitress and I've been told I am but I'm not tooting my own horn.  Anyhoo, sometimes its just plain hard to please people.  You know there is people out there that no matter what you do you just can't make happy.  I try my best and that's all I can do.  Then we have the best customers EVER and you wish they would come in everyday just to make this job so much better.  Overall at the cafe I work our customers ROCK and they are the reason I do what I do with a smile on my face.

My day started with this pompous ass coming in the cafe at 7:45 am we OPEN at 8am.  I tell him our kitchen doesn't open up until 8 so I'm sorry.  He says " You are telling me I have to wait 15 minutes for my egg sandwich" I respond "Yes I am- sorry".  He turns around and leaves all pissed. 

Then within 2 minutes comes back and demands to know the owners phone number/name- I give it to him of course and then he proceeds to tell me he comes in here all the time and it has never been a issue so why today when he is LATE for work he can't get his sandwich...DUDE BECAUSE WE ARE NOT OPEN.  I wanted to say.... so you want us to drop everything we are doing and open early  JUST FOR YOU!  I had to bite my tongue so bad not to snap at him but that wouldn't be good customer service. Who does that though- demands a cafe to open early because you feel you have some kind of clout up in this spot. I've worked here for 13 yrs and I've never seen your ass.  So sorry I had to ruin your day but guess what you ruined mine too!

Oh BTW... he did get his egg sandwich but at 8:02am.  The day went downhill from there!  Hate days like this.
